"Gears 2 (SPA Guest Host)" - Postcard

This week I have the honor of guest hosting Sunday Postcard Art, and I chose the challenge theme "Gears."

When I chose this theme, I thought, "This won't be hard to make." Boy, was I wrong. As the title of this piece indicates, this was my second attempt to make something for this. Go figure. :-)

Rusty Cardinal Tin Can Wind Chime - Photograph

This week, I took that photograph of the tin can wind chime that I made and hung in my yard back in the middle of June. I didn't use an exterior clear coat sealer / medium on this project, so that might be why now it looks like rust stains are seeping through. However, I like how it looks, so I'm happy with the effect. The original photos of it are here: Cardinal Tin Can Wind Chime

Today (Sunday, June 14, 2020) I took those photographs of the new flower bed that I've added to my yard. By Tuesday, June 9, 2020, all of the flowers had been planted, and the last step to complete was to add the mulch. But on that day, my cat became sick and ultimately ended up needing Unexpected Emergency Major Surgery on Thursday, June 11, 2020.

My cat's recovery will take 14 days or longer. So far, the early signs look positive. And surprisingly, he was well enough this weekend where I felt comfortable enough to go outside and do a little yard work each day. But I don't want to jinx it, so I'm not relaxing until he's closer to the 10 to 14 day point.

Because of my cat's recovery, my blog activity will continue to be very limited for awhile.

"Rhinoceros / Steampunk / Rust" - Postcard

I made another "rust" piece using the same background as I did for my "Belly Dancer / Rust" postcard. If you look closely, you can see the rhino is slightly embossed.

I created this using GIMP 2.10.14.

"Belly Dancer / Rust" - Postcard

This week's Try It On Tuesday challenge was "Try A New Technique."

I tried this technique: Rust Backgrounds with Distress Oxides.

However, because my artwork is digital, I needed to recreate her end result using various colors and digital brushes. I wanted to make a background that looked like the one on the left: "These are both Vintage Photo following all the same steps except the example on the left is sprayed with a mixture of instant coffee instead of water. The tones are slightly deeper. "

But my rusty background end result was a disaster, and looked nothing like hers:
