Bird Grackle No Tail - Photograph

I took that photograph through my house window a few days ago, so it is opaque looking, and not the best quality. I've seen this Grackle flying around recently. It doesn't have a tail, which I'm now assuming is due to molting. The missing tail feathers don't seem to impact its ability to fly and walk around. If anyone knows more information about this, please leave a comment.

These are some photographs that I took in my yard this past week.

I thought these Grackle photographs looked like classic Edgar Allan Poe Halloween Raven poses.

The second photograph is my entry for the following:

These are some photographs that I took in my yard this past week.

The Grackles monopolize the suet feeder. All of the other birds fly away when they show up. (Although a male Northern Cardinal held his ground on the bird feeder when a Grackle was on it.) Although I love black birds for Halloween, I'm not a fan of taking photographs of them. But the lighting when I took these created some striking images that I liked.

These are some photographs that I took of Grackles in my yard and trying to land on my bird feeder this past week.

In the first photograph, I got a great action / in flight / motion shot of the Grackle trying to land on the bird feeder.

I liked the contrasting scenery in the second photograph.

When the Grackles show up, all of the other birds fly away.

Black Birds in Dogwood Tree - Photograph

I took these photographs of a large flock of black birds that invaded my yard this past week.

I think these were Grackles. The flock landed in my yard and foraged through the fallen leaves for food. They also landed in my Dogwood tree and were eating the red berries on it.

This was my second "horror movie" experience this week. I was inside my house when I heard a lot of rustling outside, through the fallen leaves. I then started hearing a cacophony of bird chatter. I looked out the window and saw black birds descending into my yard and start scurrying around. It was like that scene from "The Birds." ;-)

Unfortunately these birds were very skittish. When I went outside to try to get photographs of them, they flew into the surrounding woods. But I did manage to get some good photographs of them. They flew in and out of my yard about three or four times.

This photograph isn't too clear because I shot it through my screen door. When I went outside to try to get photographs, the flock took off into the surrounding woods.
