This week's Our Midweek Muse theme was "Your Favorite Fictional Character."

I have a few favorite fictional characters, but I had this art piece already in progress, so I decided to use it. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving, is one of my favorite stories! Sleepy Hollow, New York is near the Tappan Zee Bridge, and I've been fortunate to have been able to visit it a few times. (My photographs are here.) My art piece features the Headless Horseman in the woods.

This group is playing (and singing) the "Sleepy Hollow Rag" tune, which I'm using as a nod to the Headless Horseman's home town. This is also a nod to "The Old Crows" (you know who you are).

I made a Sleepy Hollow Headless Horseman themed piece. The infamous bridge is in the background. Contrary to popular belief (due to movies), it wasn't a covered bridge in the story:

"not far from the church, was formerly thrown a wooden bridge; the road that led to it, and bridge itself, were thickly shaded by overhanging trees, which cast a gloom about it, even in the daytime; but occasioned a fearful darkness at night." (Page 42)

I made another Halloween / Sleepy Hollow / Headless Horseman themed piece.

I modified the tail that I used in my previous piece, and used a different design for the rest of this. Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite stories/movies. I'm hoping to make a day trip to the town after Halloween, when it shouldn't be too crowded.
