This week’s
Sunday Postcard Art challenge was “Mother's Day.”
I was getting close to my 1000th blog post, so I intentionally made it the one for my Sunday Postcard Art (SPA) entry. In 2009, when I started using some of my spare time to explore my creative side and created this blog,
Sunday Postcard Art was the first challenge site I participated on. It was also the first one where one of my pieces was featured in a sampler, which was such a thrill!
This piece started with the square strawberry image that I found from an Internet search. The rest of the design evolved around it. Lately I've been using repeating patterns for my backgrounds. In this piece, I used stripes and circles.
First I created the rows of the green stripes, duplicated the layer and merged it together to create one layer that was twice the width (12") of the image. I then rotated that layer 45 degrees. (The lines were too short when I rotated the 6" width layer.) I added the polka dots on top of that. Lastly, I created a rounded rectangle border with a radius of 15, and a width of 30 pixels. I recently upgraded to
GIMP 2.8.4 and used it to create this.
