Those photos don't give much perspective, to show how much snow has fallen as of 10AM. This post shows the same area in the first photo, when the snow began. The National Weather Service reports that as of 7AM this morning, 16" (40.64 cm) of snow had been measured at Bridgeport Airport, Connecticut. Still in effect: Blizzard Warning until February 23, 06:00 PM EST

Ahead of the start of the snow storm, freezing rain, sleet, and light snow had been falling. Then, around 12:50pm EST, the snow started coming down steadily. Now in effect: Blizzard Warning in effect from February 22, 01:00 PM EST until February 23, 06:00 PM EST. The forecast totals for the general area are 13" (33.02 cm) to 23" (58.42 cm), or more simply, 1 foot (0.3048 meters) to 2 feet (0.6096 meters) of snow, with the projected total of 17.2" (43.688 cm) for where I am! But hey, it could be worse, right?

Snow On Trees - Photograph

I took those photographs of the snow in my yard. When the storm was done, there was about 4" (10.16 centimeters) of heavy wet snow, which is the type of snow Connecticut gets, due to its proximity to Long Island Sound and the ocean.

THE PINE LADY

O have you seen the Pine Lady,
Or heard her how she sings?
Have you heard her play
Your soul away
On a harp with moonbeam strings?
In a palace all of the night-black pine
She hides like a queen all day,
Till a moonbeam knocks
On her secret tree,
And she opens her door
With a silver key,
While the village clocks
Are striking bed
Nine times sleepily.

O come and hear the Pine Lady
Up in the haunted wood!
The stars are rising, the moths are flitting,
The owls are calling,
The dew is falling;
And, high in the boughs
Of her haunted house,
The moon and she are sitting.

Out on the moor the night-jar drones
Rough-throated love,
The beetle comes
With his sudden drums,
And many a silent unseen thing
Frightens your cheek with its ghostly wing;
While there above,
In a palace builded of needles and cones,
The pine is telling the moon her love,
Telling her love on the moonbeam strings -
O have you seen the Pine Lady,
Or heard her how she sings?

Hollywood movies and some religions have one thing in common: they tell people if one wishes / prays for something, and one is deserving, one will receive it. Some religions add the disclaimer, when a prayer isn't granted, that what one wanted was not part of God's plan.

And maybe by tomorrow,
if I wish with all my might,
I might have the wish I wish tonight

Snow Squall - Photograph

I took those photographs during the snow squall that came through my area in the afternoon, here in Connecticut (CT), United States (US). I took all of the photos through glass panes (windows / doors), so the quality isn't the best. We don't normally get snow squalls here, so I naively thought it would only be heavy snowfall for a short period of time. When it arrived, it had very high winds that blew the trees around. It's hard to tell, but in the last photo, that pine tree (and all of the others) were bending in all directions as the wind buffeted them. It was very scary, and I was relieved no trees fell.
