I took some poetic license with this. The map in the background is of the Groton / New London Connecticut area. The New London Ledge Light is allegedly haunted, but it doesn't look like the lighthouse image I used for my art piece.

I took some poetic license with this. The map in the background is of the Groton / New London Connecticut area. The New London Ledge Light is allegedly haunted, but it doesn't look like the lighthouse image I used for my art piece.

Unfortunately it was very overcast and hazy, so the lighthouse photo didn't come out good.

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Lighthouse."

I created this using GIMP 2.8.10.

The vintage digital stamp images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

First I blotted blue inks on a manila postcard, for a grungy look. Then I stamped the lighthouse and seagulls using charcoal ink. I created a radiating light/sun by stamping a yellow ink rose compass, while using a cut out paper mask over the lighthouse, to avoid stamping within it. Finally, I flicked blue paint from a brush onto the sea area, to create an ocean spray look.

Jennings Beach, Fairfield CT - Tourist Postcard

I created a replica vintage style tourist postcard.

I used a photograph I took of Fayerweather Island Lighthouse in Bridgeport CT, as seen from Jennings Beach in Fairfield CT on February 25, 2013. In GIMP, I created a rounded rectangle border with a radius of 15, and a width of 50 pixels. I used an Old Paper script to give the postcard a distressed look.

The font is Janda Elegant Handwriting.

These are two light houses I took long distance shots of, so they are somewhat blurry. I don't know the name of the first one, but the second one is Sheffield Island Lighthouse in Norwalk CT.

Feb 26 2013 update: The first photograph is of Fayerweather Island Lighthouse and the second one is of Penfield Reef Lighthouse, not Sheffield.

This is 3 of 3 posts of photographs I took at sunset at Burying Hill Beach in Westport CT on January 10, 2013.

I didn't realize I was also getting the Norwalk Lighthouse in some of my sunset photographs until later, when I uploaded them to my computer.

The color hues in these are an unintentional effect from the digital camera.

The first photograph is my entry for this week's Himmelsk #119. This is my first time entering this challenge.

This is a long distance photograph I took of the Norwalk Light House from Compo Beach in Westport, CT on January 05, 2013.

Because of the distance, this is blurry, and has a mirage look to it, which I like.
