This week I have the honor of guest hosting Sunday Postcard Art, and I chose the challenge theme "Summer."


When I made this art piece months ago, I didn't realize it would reflect how hot the Summer would be where I live in the northeast US. We will be having our third or fourth Heat Advisor this coming Tuesday and Wednesday, when the Heat Index will be 100 F to 105 F (37.7 C to 40.5 C).

I took that photograph of the beautiful sunrise this morning. The colors in the photo don't show how stunning they looked to the human eye. As the saying goes, "Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning." Later today I will post NOAA's snow storm forecast for this area. :-(

Month of Jun - The Book of Days

I created a Sunrise theme art journal page for the Month of Jun page for the weekly planner/journal that I'm using for my Book of Days. This piece is based on my Sun postcard. I replaced the color ink cartridge in my printer, so this image printed correctly.

This is also my entry for this month's Art Journal Journey challenge "The Color Yellow."

Oh yeah: and it's snowing here today (Feb 12, 2019). That's why my thoughts are focused on yellow warmth.

"The Sun - Sunrise" - Postcard

This week I have the honor of being the guest host at Sunday Postcard Art and I chose the theme of "The Sun."

I hope everyone has fun with the theme. I can't wait to see what everyone creates. I'll be by to visit everyone during the week.

For my piece, I started with the woman wearing the sunrise dress, and then created the scene around her. I added the sun / moon / fan couple but modified the colors to be more yellow. The dark blue border matched the color of the moon, and the smaller flowers within it reminded me of stars, so I used it as my symbolic night sky which was fading at dawn. I added the radiating sun spokes in the background, to line up with the sun on her dress and enhance the appearance of the rising sun.

I took these photographs of the early morning sunlight reflecting in water droplets from the overnight rain that was frozen to the outside of my screen door. I couldn't capture the actual view I was trying to get, but I like the bokeh effect that occurred.
