This week's Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "At The Beach."

I went with an unconventional interpretation, which morphed into a tourist postcard for Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Their tourist industry is probably suffering due to the covid-19 restrictions. I had wanted to recommend a fantastic BBQ restaurant there, but the restaurant was sold on May 6, 2020, according to their website: Marconi Beach BBQ & Seafood Restaurant

I created this using GIMP 2.10.18.

"Tourist Postcard - Gothic Arch Door" - Postcard

© All Rights Reserved

I created a Tourist Postcard from a photograph that I took of a Gothic Arch Door at Southport Congregational Church in Fairfield, CT this past week.

The early morning sunlight cast shadows on the door.

This is my entry for this week's Three Muses challenge "Windows or Doors."

I created this using GIMP 2.8.18.

"A Trip to Hawaii" - Postcard

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Hawaii."

I started with another white washed background that I had made first. Then I added the text and images. I gave this the appearance of a tourist postcard that has been accidentally postmark cancelled on the wrong side (the front, instead of the back). I also designed this postcard such that it looks "correct" when viewed both vertically (upright) and horizontally (turned on its side).

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.

"The Mountains Called Me" - Postcard

© All Rights Reserved
This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Trees."

I modified a pine tree "stamp" and used "green ink" for this.

The quote, "The mountains called me and I answered them," is from my Father, who loved to climb the White Mountains of New Hampshire, especially Mount Washington.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.

The vintage images are from an Internet search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

Save Pequot Library! - petition appeal

© All Rights Reserved
I am trying to get the word out, to ask readers like you, to sign the

Libraries in the United States provide free access to books and many other resources to everyone. The Pequot Library relies on 1/3 of its operating costs to come from the Town of Fairfield, CT, but this year the Town Finance Committee voted to cut their funding, effective July 1, 2013.

I am hoping you, regardless of where you live in the world, will tell all of your friends about this, and sign the petition, to make your voice heard about the value a library has to everyone.

No donation is required to sign the petition. If you do sign it, the website will send you a "thank you" email to acknowledge your signature. You can ignore and close the window that opens that asks for a donation, because it is for the petition website itself, not the library.

I created a replica vintage style tourist postcard for this appeal, using a photograph I took of the Pequot Library in the Southport section of Fairfield, CT in August 2012, a few weeks after their annual book sale.

Rockport MA - Tourist Postcards

© All Rights Reserved
These are my third and fourth replica vintage style tourist postcards.

I used pictures I took in Rockport, MA. In GIMP, I created a rounded rectangle border with a radius of 15, and a width of 50 pixels. I used an Old Paper script to give the second postcard a distressed look. The first picture was grainy due to the zoom setting, which created the look I wanted for the vintage postcard.
