I created this using GIMP 2.10.34

I made two art pieces using the same background, but a different headless horseman for each. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving, is one of my favorite stories!

"Headless Horseman Woods" - Postcard

This week's Our Midweek Muse theme was "Your Favorite Fictional Character."

I have a few favorite fictional characters, but I had this art piece already in progress, so I decided to use it. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving, is one of my favorite stories! Sleepy Hollow, New York is near the Tappan Zee Bridge, and I've been fortunate to have been able to visit it a few times. (My photographs are here.) My art piece features the Headless Horseman in the woods.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving can be read online here for free, at Project Gutenberg.

"The Old Crows" - Postcard

This week's Sunday Postcard Art theme was "Ravens and Crows." October is Halloween month! :-)

This group is playing (and singing) the "Sleepy Hollow Rag" tune, which I'm using as a nod to the Headless Horseman's home town. This is also a nod to "The Old Crows" (you know who you are).

This one goes out to the Radar Wizards and Swamis
(sung to the tune of (This One Goes Out To) The One I Love - R.E.M.)

(Speaking for myself only:)
Remember how we laughed away the hours
And dreamed of all the great things we would do
Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way

Washington Irving Gravestone, Sleepy Hollow, NY - Photograph

I took these photographs on September 22, 2017 in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, in Sleepy Hollow, NY.

This is the grave site of "the man" himself, Washington Irving. As a point of reference, the Benedict Mausoleum is in the background. There are free cemetery maps in boxes at the entrances.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving, is one of my favorite stories! Sleepy Hollow, NY is near the Tappan Zee Bridge and is about a 45 minute drive for me to get to. It is exciting enough just to get to see the village, bridge, and church where the story took place, and to roam around the cemeteries. But on this visit, I was able go inside the Old Dutch Church in one of those perfect timing lucky moments! (See additional blog posts for more photos and details.)

I took these photographs on September 22, 2017 inside the Old Dutch Church, in Sleepy Hollow, NY.

I spent most of the morning taking photographs in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. As I was leaving, I wanted to take photos of the outside of the Old Dutch Church. A very nice woman and man saw me with my camera, and told me I could go into the church because it was open for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new handicap ramp that had been installed.

I was thrilled! The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, by Washington Irving, is one of my favorite stories. Sleepy Hollow, NY is near the Tappan Zee Bridge and is about a 45 minute drive for me to get to. It is exciting enough just to get to see the village, bridge, and church where the story took place, and to roam around the cemeteries. They also mentioned there is a Christmas mass held in the Old Dutch Church. Although it would be a bit of a drive for me to undertake, and Winter weather can be unpredictable around here at that time of year, I'm going to keep it in mind.
