This week’s Wicked Wednesday ATC challenge #83 was "Tarot Symbols (pentacles, wands, cups, swords)."
Tarot is one of my favorite themes, and one I haven't done in awhile. But the challenge site wants hand crafted ATCs, not digital creations, so I'm not posting this onto their site, because I want to respect their rules.
The vintage images are from an Internet search, including the Library of Congress.
I took these pictures of some of the stained glass windows at the Pequot Library in Fairfield CT on August 10, 2012. When I first saw the woman statue in the window, I thought it was a person inside the library, which was closed, and it startled me.
I took these pictures at Christ Church Parish, in Redding CT. I love the gravestones that have skulls on them. There is a beautiful stained glass window inside the church, but none of my pictures of it came out well.
This week’s Three Muses challenge was “Windows.” This is my second creation, and is closer to the medieval stained glass window that I had envisioned making. Purely by accident, I created the woman with the appearance you see here, which looks like a style of Christmas ornament that I love but can’t remember the name of. (It’s a thin opaque milky white glass type material, usually made as angels and stars, with pseudo silver lead stained glass edging.) I had to reverse engineer the woman, to figure out how she was created, because I couldn’t duplicate what I had done the first time, to make her, and I want to be able to do this same affect again with other images. (Don’t ask how many hours that took.) Then I created the stained glass window framing around her. I’m not sure the frame looks exactly like what I wanted, but I’m thrilled about my discoveries! It was worth the time I spent on it.
Updated 14:00 EDT: The ornaments I was thinking of are capiz angels and stars. I think they are made using capezio shells.
This week’s Three Muses challenge was “Windows.” I wanted to create a medieval stained glass window, but that’s going to take more time than I have so I had to give up on that idea for the moment. I made an art nouveau style stained glass window instead. I “drew” it in GIMP. It probably looks simple, but it took awhile to create.
