With Halloween fast approaching, I made a Samhain themed piece.

I also recently visited Sleepy Hollow, NY, and took photographs of Washington Irving's gravestone, the cemeteries, and inside the Old Dutch Church. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite stories, so it was a thrill to be able to visit the stomping grounds of the Headless Horseman!

This week's Three Muses challenge was "The Printed Word".

I made another dark themed piece filled with symbolism. I started with the background, which is a page of text from a book. I added images for some of the words on that page.

"Summer Solstice / Full Moon" - Postcard

I made a Summer Solstice / Full Moon themed piece.

The Full Moon occurred at 7:02am local time, but set at 5:43am, so I could not see it at its peak. It will rise again tonight at 8:31pm. I might try to get photos of it then. The sun will set at 8:29pm, and civil twilight will end at 9:03pm.

As usual, I missed the actual event. That's life. Expect nothing, and then life won't disappoint.

I heard about a great site today: I love Albinoni's Adagio.

It is fitting that I was reconnected with that song. It fits my mood. "Life has been faded into grey..."

"Celtic Orange" - Postcard

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Orange."

I wasn't sure if this was a color or fruit challenge, so I went with color.

I started with two old book pages that I combined into one. Next, I added text strips about the moon and night from a white old book page. Then I added Celtic related orange text strips. I used an orange blank old book page to cut out stars that I placed throughout the postcard. I completed the piece by adding the birds and flowers.

Last Friday night (actually Saturday starting around 1am) into Sunday morning, I got about 1 foot of snow where I live, from the Blizzard that shutdown the tri-state area. But by the end of this week, a lot of that snow has melted down.

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Stencils."

This is 1 of 2 postcards that I made for this challenge. I used two vintage stencils for this. The words are from poems from "The Druid Path" by Marah Ellis Ryan. I wanted to evoke a mystical feeling to this piece. (I took some poetic license by calling the grape vine a tree.)
