White Rhinoceros!!! - Pictures

The first picture is my entry for this week's Weekly Top Shot #58.

I have loved Rhinoceros since I was a child! I had never seen one in person. Words can't describe how thrilling it was for me to see them for the first time! They are beautiful, gentle, graceful creatures.

I was in Melbourne on a business trip. My co-worker and friend Jean Marie, who is one of the most thoughtful people you could ever meet, took me to the zoo. We saw all of the exhibits, but we spent most of the time watching the Rhinoceros.

I have mixed feelings about wild animals being kept pent up in a zoo. But then I was sickened to see a story on last night's BBC news that said 8 Rhinoceros were killed by poachers in a single attack on a reserve in South Africa, bringing the total number killed this year to 570.

I joked with Jean Marie that the vultures looked like they were having a group meeting, and said it was sort of like our team meeting at the start of our work day. We later saw these alligators (crocodiles?) resting, and I joked that it looked like all of us after our work day was complete, and we were all exhausted and resting.
