"How Was Your Winter" - Postcard

This week's Our Midweek Muse theme was "How Was Your Winter".

I am hoping that a picture tells a thousand words, and that my art piece shows how my Winter was. And Winter is not done yet: although rare, Connecticut can get snow in April.

I live in the southwest coastal area of Connecticut, which is also called the "tri-state" area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Because Connecticut has Long Island Sound, and the rest of the "tri-state" has the North Atlantic Ocean, our snow is typically "wet" snow. Having grown up here, I never knew that nice, light, fluffy snow, that states like Utah get, even existed until I was older: the snow here is usually heavy like cement. ;-)

This Winter has been unusually cold, unusually windy, and in addition to "normal" snowfall events, we have had two major snow storms that each dumped about 1.5 feet (0.4572 meters) of snow on us. During the first 1.5 foot storm, because the temperature was much lower than freezing, it was light, fluffy snow, except where I live, it ended as sleet / freezing rain, so there was an ice crust on top. During the second 1.5 foot storm, the temperature was close to freezing, so it was heavy, wet snow. And to add insult to injury: that snow stuck to the snow shovel like glue.

My name for my 2025-2026 Winter is: The Winter From Hell.

"Snow Queen" - Postcard

This week's Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Flourish / Swirls."

I made a cold Winter weather snow theme piece. An arctic air mass "buckle" has been in place for almost two weeks now. This weekend we have a wind chill advisory for daytime temperatures to feel like -5 to -10 F, and overnight to feel like -10 to -15 F.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.22.

1/365 postcards for Project 365 Somethings in 2018. I think that challenge might be too overwhelming to try to do, and I'm starting it late.

This week’s Take A Word challenge was "Containers."

My piece was inspired by the song Jar Of Hearts by Christina Perri. The words are from the song.

I made two pieces for this. The first one shows the Frost King. This second one shows his minions, the Snowsprites.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.
