This is 1 of 3 posts of photographs that I took at Mill Hollow Park in Fairfield, CT this past week.

A group of male and female Hooded Mergansers were in the water, diving underneath then re-emerging and flapping their wings to bathe themselves.

It was mostly overcast while I was here, but the sun came out and illuminated the water spray in the first photo. (I recommend clicking on it to enlarge it to see the detail better.) The second photo shows the amount of water spray that was flying around, which the other birds in the water didn't seem to mind getting hit with sometimes. The third photo shows the male Hooded Merganser just beginning another speed run through the water, leaving a wake behind him.

I was on the opposite bank, so those are long distance photos of the action.

Silver Water Tree Reflection - Photograph

The sky was partially overcast which may have caused the water to look silver. If you look closely, you can see water rings within the tree reflection.

This is that "Painted Duck" that I have photographed a few times in this area. Her group was sleeping on the shore, but they all looked up when I came by.

Brown Bird Dark Bill Pair - Photograph

This is 1 of 3 posts of photographs that I took at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, CT this past week.

I got two nice photos of a sparrow sized bird pair that were brown with a brown bill and dark eyes. All of the leaves have fallen where I live (Connecticut, USA), but the brown and pale foliage created a nice background hue for the shots. The first one had a sepia look to it (but is the original, unaltered photograph).

I looked in my Birds of Eastern North America book, but I couldn't figure out what these brown birds are. I included the third photograph for size comparison to another bird. They can also be seen in my third post. They are slightly larger than a House Finch. Any identifications are welcome.
