Snake In Basement! - Photograph

The "situation" in my basement has gone from bad to worse! I just went down there and saw a snake on the cement floor. I screamed and retreated back to the first floor of my house. (Then I went back down to take photos, from a safe distance.) I hate snakes. I think this is a gartersnake, which is allegedly harmless, but it got my heart racing when I saw it!

...I don't care for snake either! our first house had field stone walls, a dirt floor and an occasional snake.

Yes, it looks like a garter snake, but it's always wise to keep your distance when it comes to any snake.

I'm with you. It might be a garter snake but I would be afraid to go downstairs! Hugs-Erika

I am scared of snakes too! Hopefully the snake is lost and will find his way back outside. It does look like a garter snake. My neighbor who walks her cat on a leash and harness in the common area said she has seen snakes in the rocks here. Her cat would probably like to chase one as she tries to go after chipmunks and squirrels.

It is in fact a harmless Garter Snake, but I suspect that you would prefer that they remain outside!

It is a garter snake. Harmless. We have one, Mr. Scaley, that lives under the stairs. Every time, he pop out and slithers by me, I jump. Maybe you can get a shovel and can scoop him up and relocate him outside?

I was also excited to see snakes because our family also had a trauma with large python snakes entering our house. Luckily the snake was caught a few days later by residents after escaping from our house.

Then the snake in your house is now just left or thrown away from your house?

oh dear, I can imagine how alarming it was to find your little intruder! I do believe it is harmless but I hope you can find someone to help you get it out. xo

The trouble with snakes is you never really know whether they are dangerous or not unless of course you are a Herpetologist (think that's the right name or it could be Serpentology too) so it's best to keep your distance. Stay safe, Angela xXx

Garter snakes are good snakes. They can be safely handled. And so pretty! I like them better outside, though ;)

I hate snakes too, it would have freaked me out. Hope that was the only one.
You asked if we have snakes in Ireland, we don't and I like that way. :)
Have a wonderful weekend.
