© All Rights Reserved
This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Full Moon/Eclipse."

The April 4, 2015 Full Moon is called the "Full Pink Moon." I went with a clean and simple design using phlox, a female Northern Cardinal, and a full moon. The background color is a very faint yellow.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from the Internet Archive. (See the side of my blog for links.)

"Weather Days" – Postcard

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Weather Days."

Here in New England, I got about 6 inches of snow on the first day of Spring. But as the saying here goes, "If you don't like the weather today, wait until tomorrow." It continued to snow lightly Saturday morning, but by the afternoon, the temperature got up to 45 degrees F, and the new snow melted away. However, the ground is still snow covered in some places, jeopardizing my perennials that normally start growing mid-February to mid-March. I won't know how they fared for a few more weeks.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. (See the side of my blog for links.)

"Grief" – Postcard

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Grief."

I tried to create a piece that would convey my own words:

Sometimes Death leaves the living with an irreparably broken heart.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

The font is:

JSL Ancient Italic

The background words are from the poem May by Christina Rossetti

I cannot tell you how it was,
But this I know: it came to pass
Upon a bright and sunny day
When May was young; ah, pleasant May!
As yet the poppies were not born
Between the blades of tender corn;
The last egg had not hatched as yet,
Nor any bird foregone its mate.

I cannot tell you what it was,
But this I know: it did but pass.
It passed away with sunny May,
Like all sweet things it passed away,
And left me old, and cold, and gray.

"Saint Patrick's Day Greetings" – Tag

This week’s Tag Along challenge #80 was "Saint Patrick's Day."

Although I love this theme, I've struggled to come up with any artwork for it.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

The fonts are:

I found the words on the Internet:

For each petal on the shamrock
this brings a wish your way.
Good health, good luck, and happiness
for today and every day.

I took these photographs at Southport Beach in Fairfield, CT yesterday. This year has been a very cold and snowy Winter here. At this time last year, I had taken many more photographs than I have this year.

I managed to snap a good action shot, right as this seagull started a running takeoff, to take flight. I also liked the amount of visual interest in the first photograph.

"March" – Tag

I created this for Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2015 - March challenge.

I mimicked Tim's steps to create my tag, using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

Because my artwork is digital, and Tim Holtz's challenge is intended for people who buy his products, I'm not posting this on his site.

"Stop the Slaughter!" – Postcard

© All Rights Reserved

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Street Art."

This isn't what I envisioned creating, when I thought of Street Art, but it's where I ended up, and I had to enforce my time limit on myself.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

I used JM Sambrook's brick wall script to create the background.

"Spring Enchantments" – Tag

© All Rights Reserved
This week’s Tag Along challenge #79 was "Spring."

This is my second entry. My first tag is here. I used the same background for both, and some of the same images.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

After I posted this, I was experimenting with G'MIC Filters, and I liked how the G'MIC Artistic Filter Pen Drawing looked. I think it gives this a nice aged look. But when I saw these two side by side, I preferred the softer original version of the tag.

"Spring" – Tag

This week’s Tag Along challenge #79 was "Spring."

There is no sign of Spring where I live. We got more snow two days ago, and our temperatures have been below normal for several weeks. Normally my daffodils start growing in mid February, so I can only assume they did again this year, but they are buried under snow, so I don't know if they will live.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

I ended up creating another tag for this challenge. That tag is here.

Super Pi Day (3.1415) - Week 11 - The Book of Days

© All Rights Reserved
The week11 theme for my Book of Days was Super Pi Day, which is a name I came up with in 2009. This year, on March 14, it will be 3/14/15 => 3.1415 => Pi. Back then, I thought 2015 sounded so far away in time. Yet here we are, with less than two weeks to go until the date.

The images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

The master index for all of my entries is here.

I realized after I printed this out that it needed something in the "title" area so I added "Black Birds" to this afterwards.

This is also my entry for this week's Moo Mania challenge "Black Bird."

The words are from the Farmers' Almanac.
