This is my summation of the past week:
Those are photos of Teddy that I took during our trip to Ash Creek Open Space a few weeks ago.We went there shortly after a Summer thunderstorm had gone through, toppling some of the trees along the water.
I apologize for misleading a few people with my early post of the postcard I'm using as my ticket into this week's T-gathering. It's my ticket, not my actual T Day post. After all, Teddy has taken over the franchise, so to speak, and insists upon being the main feature each week.

My Second on the 2nd post was: Statue of Boy Fishing on Stone Dock.
I went to Boothe Memorial Park and saw some birds in a blue bird bath, a miniature windmill and stone lighthouse, some interesting houses, a house with a stone wall, and an old toll booth plaza. Back in 1983, seven people were killed and several others were injured in a fiery crash when a truck slammed into multiple cars at the I95 Stratford toll booths. That was one of the reasons why Connecticut got rid of toll roads, yet now Connectitax wants to bring back toll gantries and charge us by the miles we drive.
Most people here have long commutes to get to work because they can't afford to live near where they work, nor can they afford to move each time they get laid off and need to find another job. Telling people to take mass transit to and from work is ludicrous: in most of Connecticut, there isn't easy access to buses and trains like there is in a place like New York City, yet legislators act like that's how 100% of the land is laid out. For the toll gantries, they plan to have peak and off-peak toll rates, as if anyone commuting to work has a choice about what time they are required to arrive at work each day, and can just go in later, to drive during the "off-peak" times!
To give you an example of how well our tax dollars will be spent, after they add the money from the toll gantries to the state coffers: when they got the shovel ready stimulus money back in 2009, they planted trees at 45 degree angles along the Merritt Parkway, and all of those trees died. They planted grass seed in November, and the grass never grew (because that's too late to plant grass here).
Sorry to sound negative, but I keep seeing the cost of living rising at a higher percentage rate than income does, and adding more nickle and diming taxes on top of that is only hurting those who can least afford it.

Mystery / thriller: Side Effects (2013) (DVD), Limitless (2011) (DVD), and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) (DVD).
Science Fiction: Altered (2006) (DVD), Horror Express (1972) (DVD), The Thing (2011) (DVD), and Frequency (2000) (DVD).
Additional movies with partial reviews: Knowing (2009) (DVD) - unpleasant ending, An American Haunting (2005) (DVD) - didn't like ending to what had been a good supernatural story, Lovely Molly (2011) (DVD) - didn't like direction story took.

Oh, Teddy! Do be careful! Though Boston has a mass transit system, right now it isn't doing well. The century old infrastructure is breaking down. The MBTA has raised fares, but service isn't worth the price of a ticket because the trains/subways break down or derail. Gov. Baker wanted to give incentives to businesses if they have their employees get to work on using public transportation. Tolls on the Pike based on distance traveled and so much traffic that at times the road is like a parking lot. And how can you use public transportation if the service is not reliable? Our weather sounds the same though we didn't get severe thunderstorms in my area. Tornadoes are scary. I've never seen one and I don't want to go through one. Waiting to see what happens with Dorian. Maybe it will be a good test for the new French drain and sump pump system. Happy T Day!

I'm really glad Teddy joined us for T. In fact, I almost asked where he was this week, but was running late as usual. Glad to see he showed up and climbed into that tree. I guess you didn't need a firefighter to get him down, at least.
I was watching a documentary last night that showed our infrastructure along the eastern corridor was so badly in need of repair, if any part of it collapsed, people who take the trains into NYC from New Jersey or Connecticut would have to find alternate ways to get to work. The same is true for bridges across the country and our antiquated highway system, too. Goes along with what you were saying about peak and off-peak toll booth hours. In KS, people who take the toll road daily get a magnetic sticker for their car. They go through a certain lane and the sticker automatically counts them. I thought they had something like that back east, too. I know they have something similar over the toll bridges in San Francisco.

Teddy is a daredevil:):) that vintage postcard is so sweet.
And i agree with you that tornado warnings ARE scary in the NE- when we have gotten them on occasion here in northeast PA it definitely got me a bit unrattled. There have been touchdowns in our surrounding area in the last few years!

I agree with you: "the cost of living rising at a higher percentage rate than income does, and adding more nickle and diming taxes on top of that is only hurting those who can least afford it." While at the same time they _cut_ taxes on the wealthiest folks and allow companies to pay wages that qualify the employees for public assistance. It hurts :(

I hate toll raods. Especially the type where you have to stop at a booth and put money in every so many miles. In Italy they have a good system. You get a ticket in the boothe where you enter and at the exit booth the machine calculates how much you pay. The price is something you can look up on the internet if you want to know in advance. We were in Portugal recently. There they have electronic readings. I think they use cameras and numberplate recognition. At entry into the country all foreign cars have to put their credit card into a machine with the numberplate and 'big brother' does the rest. I have only just got the tarifs taken off my account.

I agree with your rant about politicians and urban planners. My son lives near San Francisco, where rats are spreading typhoid and other awful diseases. Medical experts say Bubonic plague is coming; not that it might, but it will unless something is done to eradicate rats and the crap (sic) that is attracting the rats. So what do the politicians do? Ban rat poison. Sometimes I feel like I'm living with Alice Through the Looking Glass where nothing makes sense.
