09/13/2019 Update: I received this bird's banding information on 09/12/2019 (1 day after reporting the sighting). I didn't notice when I took this photograph that this bird also had a Federal leg band, in addition to the neck collar band:

I take it these bands are illegal unless the researcher has permission to band the bird? Or did I misunderstand the banding notes I read on the .gov web site?
I can see banding a bird's leg, but not the neck. That would be dangerous, although apparently it is done often.
Victoria - The plight of H290 continues! I first spotted this goose in June 2020 at Compo Beach in Westport and was outraged by the large neck band! It cannot fly and I reported this to CT DEEP and was told this is not a CT tag so nothing they could do. I then called Wildlife in Crisis, but they need someone to bring the goose to them. I made numerous calls to Westport Animal Control and was told they could not locate it. He has been hanging by the water hose near the kayak racks and I see him every day. The band is still on! He's been dehydrated on several occasions and waits for me at the water hose knowing I provide fresh water and a nice shower! Very frustrating that this has been going on all summer!!! Don't know what else to do?
