I took these photographs at Greenfield Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, CT this past week.

This cemetery was the first place I saw a skull and cross bones gravestone, so I like to go back to photograph it on occasion. They were doing repairs here, and several gravestones were dug up and laying on the ground.

Note: I realized they made the gravestone straight and level, which is probably what they are doing for the repairs going on here. (Connecticut Winters followed by Spring thaws are rough on the ground over time, and some of these gravestones date back to the late 1700s.) You can see how the skull and cross bones gravestone used to be crooked in the photos here. Now it is straight.

I've never seen a skull and crossbones on a grave marker. Interesting. It's somehow comforting to see a cemetery being kept in good repair.
