This is 1 of 3 posts of photographs that I took at Mill Hollow Park in Fairfield, CT this past week.A group of male and female Hooded Mergansers were in the water, diving underneath then re-emerging and flapping their wings to bathe themselves.
It was mostly overcast while I was here, but the sun came out and illuminated the water spray in the first photo. (I recommend clicking on it to enlarge it to see the detail better.) The second photo shows the amount of water spray that was flying around, which the other birds in the water didn't seem to mind getting hit with sometimes. The third photo shows the male Hooded Merganser just beginning another speed run through the water, leaving a wake behind him.
I was on the opposite bank, so those are long distance photos of the action.
The first photograph is my entry for the following:

Hello, great shots of the Mergansers. They are one of my favorites. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
Hello Anne. Hooded Merganser is a species I'd love to see in the wild but not much chance here in the UK - except in wildfowl collections.
Wow!! These are truly fantastic action shots...being long distance is all part of the ambiance I think.
I love the Mergansers. Merry Christmas!
i love these guys. we usually get a couple that stop in over winter here. :)
I will say 'ditto' again from what I posted in the comment as Hootin' Anni!!! Fabulous ambiance.
