This is 1 of 3 posts of photographs I took at the Reservoir in Easton, CT this past week. I heard this bird before I saw it come walking out from behind some foliage. I was thrilled to see for the first time what I think is a Great Blue Heron! (Bird identification corrections welcome, if I am mistaken.)The first photo is my entry for the following:
Camera Critters #280
I'd Rather Be Birding
Weekly Top Shot #96

Hi there - not really in a position to offer advice about birds in your part of the world - but I'm pretty sure you are on the money with your ID.
ReplyDeleteWBW opens on Wednesday (!) 2am mine time and closes at mid-day the next friday - hope you can find time to link up.

ReplyDeleteOh yes....confirmed your ID. It's a Great Blue Heron alright, and their distinct 'calling' is not something you'll soon forget. GREAT photos.

ReplyDeleteHad one of these in our backyard the other day by our stream. When it took off it reminded me of a pteradactly...they are so prehistoric looking in flight.
ReplyDeleteWow - amazing shots!
ReplyDeleteWe have great blue herons in Ontario and I've seen one nesting high in tall trees. Sometimes they visit our backyard pond in hopes of eating some goldfish from our pond.
ReplyDeleteYou've captured this one well to show the nice blue colour they are.
