"Me" - Postcard

© All Rights Reserved
This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was “Me.” I'm a private person, so I almost wasn't going to do this challenge. But then I decided to make a mix of themes that I like, to show me. This postcard has a blend of celestial, astronomical charts, medieval, illuminated manuscript writing, and rhinoceros. Other themes that I like are art deco, art nouveau, vintage, stained glass, the ocean/water, futuristic (science fiction slant), Old World Maps, monsters (sea monsters, dragons), Celtic, Moroccan, Oriental, magical/enchanted, mythology, dark (skeletons, witches, devils, wizards, druids, occult, tarot). I've probably left out some too.

I've been working a lot lately, which has hampered my creative side from coming up with good ideas for challenges. But I'm grateful that I have a job, because I know people who are underemployed and unemployed.

Most of these images are from the New York Public Library and the Library of Congress. Links for those sites and other resources are on the right hand side of my blog.

"Boat" - Postcard

© All Rights Reserved
This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was “Boat.” I went in an unconventional direction, but this is where my muse took me. If I get time, I might make another entry, because I started another postcard for this theme, but haven't completed it yet. Today is a top 10 day here, so now I need to enjoy the outdoors.

The words are from the poems Inland and Exiled by Edna St. Vincent Millay.

Searching my heart for its true sorrow,
This is the thing I find to be:
That I am weary of words and people,
Sick of the city, wanting the sea;
People the waves have not awakened,
Spanking the boats at the harbor's head...

What do they long for, as I long for
One salt smell of the sea once more?

Screaming to God for death by drowning--
One salt taste of the sea once more?

This is my new kitchen table. I got it at Ikea about 2 months ago. First I stained it, then I put clear coat on it. I purchased the color coordinating placemats at Walmart.
