"Tim Holtz Style" - Tag

This week’s Artful Times challenge was "Tim Holtz Style."

I mimicked Tim's August 2014 tag which I didn't have time to do last year.

I recently found the woman image on the Metropolitan Museum of Art and knew I wanted to use her for something soon. I realized she would be the perfect focal point for the tag.

I used dictionary page sections as the "tape" behind her and also near the bottom of the tag. Because Tim used tape to resist the application of colors, I used a layer mask on the colors to mute them. I created my colors using several layers, then merged them together so I could use the mask on them.

I created the raised paste using a repeating pattern, then applied a GIMP Bevel script. I used that same Bevel script for the gears and arrow. (It's one of my favorite scripts, and by posting the details of how I created this, I discovered there's a newer version of the script, so I need to download it and try it out!)

I reused the "You have been loved" metal piece from my March tag.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

  4. I haven't delved in the digital crafting yet and I was amazed to find out your tag wasn't "real". It's a great Tim tag with a lovely vintage image.
