We’ve gotten about 3 or more inches (7.62 centimeters) of rain over the past two days. This is my backyard again, where I’m safely up on a hill, away from any potential flooding. Tomorrow morning’s commute to work could be bad. A road I take looked like it’s about to be overtaken by the rising water. (I didn’t have my camera or I would’ve taken pictures there too.)

"Elemente Metal" - ATC

This week’s Think Monday – Think ATC challenge was “Elemente Metal.” From the challenge site: “Wood, fire, earth, metal and water are the 5 elements of the chinese calendar. 2010 is the year of the metal.”

Rain Storm

We were supposed to get 2.5 to 3 inches (6.35 to 7.62 centimeters) of rain yesterday into this morning, but I haven’t heard what the totals were yet. Those are two pictures of the water behind my house. I could hear it roaring when I awoke, but I had to wait until daylight to see the volume. Normally this doesn’t have the frothing white caps rushing through, so we got a lot of rain. Fortunately my house is far enough above this that it’s never a flood risk for me.

This week’s Three Muses challenge was “Newspaper.” I struggled to come up with an idea for this, and then I got this idea after finding this newspaper page with China as one of the topics. This challenge also led me to a wonderful source for newspaper images at the Newspaper Archives/Indexes/Morgues which I have added to the resources links on the right hand side of my blog.

"Beach Bathing Beauties" - Gothic Arch

This week’s Gothic Arches challenge was “Beach Bathing Beauties.” I started with a conventional vintage bather, but then I ended up going off in an enchanted/magical direction.

This is also my 250th blog post. I wanted to mark the milestone with fanfare and maybe even tie in a celebration/anniversary piece with a challenge that has that for its theme. But when I finished this piece, I thought it looked special enough to be number 250.

I also want to thank everyone who left comments last week. Once again, I’ve fallen behind on looking at and commenting on entries for challenges.

This week’s Think Monday – Think ATC challenge was “Orange.” I tried to combine last week’s Dancing with this week’s Orange, but I ended up “forcing” it, so I had to abandon that effort. I used several textures for my Orange ATC. I also created a Dancing ATC with a hint of orange.
