This week’s Three Muses challenge was "Birdy Birdy."

I started with the bird, then added everything else around him. I'm not even sure what this piece is trying to be, other than vintage. I'm currently struggling with artist's block again.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.

"Crockery / Moon Goddess" - Postcard

This week’s Three Muses challenge was "Crockery."

I know the theme was supposed to feature crockery, but when I found this catalog header, I went where my muse took me. First I added the blue star dress onto the woman. I cut the background stars from a different postcard that I had made, and colored them blue. I used several layers of images to create the background.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.

"A Trip to Hawaii" - Postcard

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Hawaii."

I started with another white washed background that I had made first. Then I added the text and images. I gave this the appearance of a tourist postcard that has been accidentally postmark cancelled on the wrong side (the front, instead of the back). I also designed this postcard such that it looks "correct" when viewed both vertically (upright) and horizontally (turned on its side).

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.

"James Dean / Taylor Swift / Style" - Postcard

© All Rights Reserved
This week's Take a Word challenge was "Black and White."

I made a piece based on the song Style by Taylor Swift. ("You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye." I love that song!)

I started with another white washed background that I had made first. Then I added the song lyrics, text, and the image of James Dean.

I looked into contacting Taylor Swift, to send her a link to this post, but there does not seem to be an easy way to do that. By choice, I am not on Twitter, Facebook, etc., so the alternative is snail mail. But she gets thousands of fan letters every day, so why bother? While I like her music, I'm not a "follower/fan" kind of person. And people send her letters, not art postcards, so mailing this to her would be pointless.

Note to Taylor Swift: I made this art piece for personal use only. If you do see this post and object to it on copyright grounds, please leave a comment (or use the Contact Form) and I will remove this post.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.

"Spring Herald" - Postcard

© All Rights Reserved
I made a Spring garden seeds themed piece.

Here in southern New England, Spring has been late in coming. We have had a few freezing rain and light snow weather events that most likely have killed my Old Fashioned Bleeding Hearts plants, which started growing in mid-March. Time will tell how they fare, but the loss of these beautiful plants will be hard for me to accept.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.

This is my second entry for this week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge "Architecture." (My first entry can be seen here.)

"April" - Tag

© All Rights Reserved

I created this for Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2016 - April challenge.

I mimicked Tim's steps to create my tag, but I made mine somewhat differently than his.

The main focal point is the mosaic bird, which I made separately, then added to the tag. I used earthy greens and browns for my background colors, which give a hint of Spring. (It's actually snowing here today, where I am in southern New England. It's probably going to kill my Bleeding Hearts, which started growing about two weeks ago.) I also have a library / book subtheme in this piece.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.16.

The vintage images are from an Internet search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

Because my artwork is digital, and Tim Holtz's challenge is intended for people who buy his products, I don't usually post my tags on his site.
