Nathan Hale Homestead - Photograph

I took this photograph of the Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry, CT recently.

Captain Nathan Hale was caught and hanged as a spy at age 21 by the British in New York in September of 1776. He is famous for his alleged last words: "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."

We live in an era of words with watered down meanings. Politicians use the word "Patriot" (one who loves, supports, and defends one's country) to describe people in circumstances that have nothing to do with the definition of the word.

Nathan Hale was a Patriot. He would be appalled at the surveillance state his country has now become.

This week’s Moo Mania challenge was "Numbers."

This is 1 of 2 posts of pieces that I created for the theme. I liked how the Moo looked, so I also created a 2" x 6" Bookmark, and a 4" x 6" Postcard.

I didn't like how the Bookmark and Postcard looked "solid" so I changed the layer opacity, but I didn't quite like how that looked either, so I posted both. But seeing them posted, I prefer the "solid" version of them.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

This photograph ended up looking like a double or triple exposure snapshot. The head and wings are in motion but look translucent.

"Flag Day" – Postcard

© All Rights Reserved

I created this piece for today's June 14, 2015 anniversary of Flag Day.

The words are a condensed version of what President Obama said on June 7, 2013 after Edward Snowden revealed that the United States Government is violating the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution:

"if anybody in government wanted to go further than just that top-line [meta]data and wanted to listen to [the recorded] phone call, they’d have to go back to a federal judge"

"And so not only does that court authorize the initial gathering of data, but I want to repeat, if anybody in government wanted to go further than just that top-line data and wanted to, for example, listen to Jackie Calmes’s phone call, they’d have to go back to a federal judge and — and — and indicate why, in fact, they were doing further — further probing."

The only way they can "go further" and "listen to" the "phone call" that corresponds to "that top-line" metadata is if they recorded the phone call.

Yet despite Obama stating that the US Government is recording every phone call made by Americans, neither the press nor the citizens of this country have voiced outrage over this blatant ongoing violation of the Fourth Amendment.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

"Blue Sky and Golden Light" – Postcard

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "At the Beach."

I struggled to come up with something for this due to the recurrence of artist's block. I ended up going to the beat of my own drummer (for the second time with this theme).

The words are from a Chanel No. 5 commercial

I am made of blue sky and golden light
And I will feel this way forever

I printed this and was going to post a photograph of it, but the colors came out too dark, so some of the details weren't noticeable enough.
