"Pink and Black" – Tag

© All Rights Reserved

This week’s Tag Along challenge #74 was "Think Pink."

I don't like the color pink, but I think it looks great when it's combined with black.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

The words are "You seize the flow’r, its bloom is shed" and are from a poem by Robert Burns and which I originally saw in this great SPA entry by Deb.

The font is Bookman Old Style Semi-Bold.

"Robert Burns" – Postcard

© All Rights Reserved

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Robert Burns Night."

I wasn't sure what to do for this, and ended up having to enforce my time limit on myself. This year I either have to declare my piece finished or abandon it, instead of spending excessive amounts of time on it if I don't like how it's coming out.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from the Internet Archive. (See the side of my blog for links.)

On the Blizzard front, it looks like I got lucky, and the storm went further East than they originally forecast. It's still snowing, but the totals here are much less than the original 2 to 3 feet they expected. The eastern part of the state looks like it took the brunt of the storm, as far as Connecticut goes.

Blizzard Warning - Tri State Area - 20 to 30+ inches of snow

I copied that image from the National Weather Service New York site.

Two days ago, the local weather stations were saying we would get a dusting of snow tomorrow. Today, NOAA has issued a Blizzard Warning, for 20 to 30 inches or more of snowfall:

Super Bowl Sunday - Week 05 - The Book of Days

© All Rights Reserved
The week05 theme for my Book of Days was Super Bowl Sunday.

Super Bowl XLIX is one week from today. I'm not rooting for either team, but I'll be watching the game.

I'll also be reading the sports news leading up to it, to learn about any developments in the Deflate-Gate investigation.

Apparently whoever is behind Deflate-Gate didn't realize sports irregularities are taken very seriously in the United States, like when Roger Clemens was charged with, but later cleared of, perjury to Congress, while men like James Clapper can lie to (commit perjury) Congress with impunity. James Clapper has not, and never will be, charged with perjury, when in his case, he is guilty.

If lawlessness is permissible at the highest levels of the United States Government, why should anyone be surprised when a sports rule gets broken? The precedent has been set that laws (rules) can be broken with the tacit approval of the law writers.

"Obsession" – Tag

This week’s Tag Along challenge #73 was "Spots and Dots."

I created the background for this, then didn't know what to do after that. I'm not sure that I like the end result, but this year I'm also setting a time limit on myself: I either have to declare my piece finished or abandon it, instead of spending excessive amounts of time on it if I don't like how it's coming out.

The words and placing of them were inspired by Calvin Klein's slogan, "between love and madness lies obsession."

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14. I made the barely visible sub-background using G'MIC Filter - Patterns - Periodic Dots.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

The font is Bookman Old Style Semi-Bold.

"Paisley Printing" – Postcard

This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was "Paisley" for the pattern.

I was looking for paisley patterns in books when I found old directories for the town of Paisley. I'm not 100% happy with my end result, and it doesn't contain any actual patterns, so I'm not posting it to the challenge site.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.14.

"January" – Tag

I created this for Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2015 - January challenge.

I mimicked Tim's steps to create my tag, using GIMP 2.8.14.

The vintage images are from a DuckDuckGo search. (See the side of my blog for links.)

I'm not bothering to post this on his site because my artwork is digital, and his challenge is intended for people who buy his products.

This year I've decided to "do my own thing" when it comes to challenges like his and others, where I "don't fit it" or the rules are more complicated than I want to deal with.

My goal for my artwork endeavors in 2015 is to Keep It Simple (KIS) and Have Fun. I'll continue to participate in challenges where digital artwork is welcome, and I'll also be working on my own Book of Days challenge.

The Book of Days 2015

I've decided to create a Book of Days for 2015.

I used to receive beautiful Illuminated Manuscript Book of Days books as gifts for Christmas. I loved them. Last year I started The Documented Life Project challenge but didn't finish it. This year, their rules and requirements are too complicated for me to want to participate, so I'm doing my own thing. My only rules are Keep It Simple (KIS) and Have Fun.

The challenge involves using a weekly planner. I purchased a 2015 Sugar Paper Los Angeles 5" x 8" weekly/monthly planner, and will continue to use the Bic and Crayola markers that I bought last year.

I used GIMP version 2.8.14 to create 2" x 1.5" tabs that I then printed on card stock paper, cut out, and Elmer's glue sticked into the planner.

I created a page template in GIMP, which is 4.5" x 8" with 0.125" radius corners on the right side.

The weekly challenge themes are listed below, and I will add links to my entries as I create them. This blog entry will serve as my master index to them.
