"Dada - Surreal" - Postcard

© All Rights Reserved
This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was “Dada” which I had never heard of. The images are from various public domain sources listed in the links on the right hand side of my blog. Some of them have been altered. There are several themes I have problems coming up with an artistic piece for: surreal, steampunk, zetti. While I understand what those themes are supposed to look like, I draw a blank on how to create one myself.

I decided to make something surreal and offensive, but my end result seems more strange than anything else. I enjoyed creating this, though, because it forced me to go outside of my box, which is always a good thing.

This piece is great! I saw that the SPA theme was going to be Dada, and also had to research it. But I'm still not sure what it is, so haven't done anything yet! Your piece is beautifully surreal and kind of shocking (I won't say offensive :)), so I think it meets the challenge wonderfully.

Anne, I know just what you mean. I struggle with those very themes myself.

I think your piece is amazing, and certainly fits the description.

I LOVE your 'offensive surreal' art card, Anne, this is what I really like, anatomical images used to shock in an artistic way!! Standing ovation from me!!

Anne, your card is fantastic - and thinking outside your box is just the right thing when it comes to DADA. If you have a look at those dadaistic artists after the first World War, you´ll notice that everything was possible and each of them defined DADA in his or her special way. You can even find the phrase "What is DADA?" itself on many pieces of artwork, so don´t worry if it is or not ... that´s just part of the game.

Very complex and intriguing.

Brilliantly described Anne. I had to look it up and went rebellious rather than weird/offensive, etc. but I really love your postcard. I think it's a great take on Dada!

I think "Dada" took us all outside our box in our search for what IS Dada. I love your weird and intricate interpretation! Good work!
