"Loss" - Postcard

© All Rights Reserved
This week’s Sunday Postcard Art challenge was “Mothers” because it's Mother's Day in England. This is a dark piece depicting a Mother's sorrow and despair over the loss of a child. The woman holding the baby is a painting by Virginie Demont-Breton (1859-1935) and the mourners are a painting by William Bouguereau (1825-1905). The words are lyrics from George Michael's song You Have Been Loved.

How sad... but very lovely Anne.

I was watching Six Feet Under last night and it was about the tragic death of a 6 y.o. boy who finds a gun at home... and there truly is no word/name for parents who lose a child, is there? Man loses wife = widower, etc. Sad...

Very special card, Anne, we forget that some Mothers today will have lost children who should have been there to share not only this special day but all other days, too.
